Interview
What makes you different?
Sports have always been a key part of my identity. I come from a family that values both athletic achievement and education. My grandparents were both doctors as well as athletes, and my father, who played basketball in the past, is now a respected surgeon and president of the largest basketball club in my hometown, Varna. Growing up in such an environment taught me the importance of balance, discipline, and excellence in everything I do.
As a high level water polo player and a member of the Bulgarian National Team, I have competed in numerous international tournaments. I’ve had the honor of serving as captain of the national team and leading my teammates to many great wins and achievements. These experiences have taught me leadership, communication, and teamwork—skills that I apply both in and out of the pool.
Why do you want to compete in college?
I aim to complete a degree that will prepare me for a successful professional career while balancing my commitment to competitive sports. Through my studies, I hope to gain the theoretical knowledge and practical experience that will allow me to make a positive impact in my future field. I also look forward to building a strong network of peers, professors, and mentors who will inspire and challenge me to be my best.
College goals
In college, my goal is to continue developing both academically and athletically. I want to receive a high-quality education in my chosen field of study, expand my knowledge, and reach my full potential. As a water polo player, I strive to contribute to the team’s success, improve my individual performance, and develop as a leader. I believe that college will help me grow not only as an athlete but also as a person—responsible, disciplined, and determined to achieve my goals.
Water Polo and life Goals?
Water polo has shaped my character and my view of success. Competing at the highest level has taught me that discipline, preparation, and teamwork are essential to achieving any goal. My long-term ambition is to continue improving as a water polo player while pursuing a meaningful career that allows me to combine my passion for sports with leadership and education. Studying and competing in the U.S. will give me the opportunity to grow in both areas and reach my full potential.
Anything else we should know?
In addition to my athletic commitments, I have always prioritized academic achievement. My favorite subjects are History and English because they help me develop critical thinking, research, and presentation skills. I also study French, which has taught me dedication, patience, and cultural awareness. Speaking multiple languages—Russian, English, and French—has strengthened my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and think globally.
These experiences have taught me that success comes from focused preparation and consistent effort. I am confident that studying in the U.S. will motivate me to keep developing as both an athlete and a student, and will provide me with the knowledge, experience, and environment necessary for personal growth and lifelong success.
